January The Twentieth

TODAY we feel change, we feel hope, we feel progress.
We take on big challenges. We give up old notions
Of what we were once "owed"
And how we thought the future would look.
Today Barack Obama stepped into his place in history
As the 44th president of these United States of America.
Grant him the strength, the health, the forbearance
The coming days will require.
Give him the people he needs, to surround himself
With knowledge, wisdom, courage and truthfulness.
Give all of us the strength it will take
To accept change, since it always involves work,
And growth and uncertainty.
We can and must change with our president
And become leaders again in our world
To project an image of hope
And an example of what freedom can achieve.
